At Apparatus, custom rugs offered an opportunity to extend the studio’s material language beyond lighting, bringing pattern, texture, and proportion into dialogue with the surrounding interior. Each project was conceived in relation to its setting, with the rug serving as both a grounding element and an integral part of the overall composition.

Working directly with Gabriel, Apparatus’s CEO and Creative Director, Vivian led custom rug projects, shaping layout direction and refining designs to support the broader spatial vision. She translated creative direction into considered arrangements, balancing pattern, scale, and placement so each rug felt connected to the room it was made for.

Alongside the design work, Vivian helped establish Apparatus’s first process for custom rug development, building a framework to carry projects from early exploration through production. She guided pricing, developed client-facing renders to communicate the proposed designs, and coordinated the steps needed to move each project forward. This work helped bring greater structure to a new offering, connecting the studio’s creative ambitions with the practical demands of custom production.
