Across the apartment lobby ceiling, 4,000 LED drop elements trace a sweeping wave of light, each suspended at a different length to create a sense of movement overhead. Conceived as an expansive architectural gesture, the installation transforms the ceiling into a shifting landscape of light and shadow, bringing a sense of fluidity to the space below.

Vivian designed the installation, exploring symmetrical, patterned, and asymmetrical compositions to understand how rhythm, density, and variation could shape the experience of the lobby. The final design embraced an asymmetrical wave, allowing the arrangement to unfold more freely across the ceiling, with a sense of movement that feels organic rather than prescribed.

To bring the composition into reality, Vivian developed a modular construction approach using interconnecting ceiling panels. This system simplified fabrication, shipping, and on-site installation while preserving the continuity of the wave. What appears as a single, continuous gesture is built from carefully coordinated parts, uniting the expressive quality of light with the precision required to realize it at scale.
