The Plywood Collection finds its character in the exposed edge, making the layered construction of the plywood a defining feature rather than something to conceal. Paired with carefully applied wood finishes, the edges reveal subtle shifts in tone and texture, lending the collection a polished rawness rooted in California modernism.

Vivian led development across six pieces: a one-drawer desk, three-drawer desk, dining table, square and rectangular coffee tables, and a bed. She directed the finish approval process, evaluating how light traveled through the layered panels and moved across their surfaces. She also assessed how the wood finishes absorbed into the exposed edges, refining the relationship between the natural plywood layers and the finished exterior.

Her work focused on preserving the material’s distinctive character through finish selection and approval, ensuring the edges remained expressive rather than overly refined. The result is a collection where the beauty lies in the construction itself, and in the subtle interplay of wood, finish, and light.
